Michael J. Blevins

1950 - 2024

Michael J. Blevins, 74, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Nation Cottage, Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls.
He was born Feb. 5, 1950 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, son of Clarence and Marjorie Kerns Blevins. He married Janice Klever on July 12, 1975 in Davenport, Iowa.
Mike graduated from Jefferson High School, Cedar Rapids. He received his bachelor's degree in sociology and religion, and his master's degree in non-educational counseling, both from the University of Northern Iowa. He was the Quality Assurance Manager at Goodwill Industries, Waterloo, until his retirement in 2014.
Mike was a quiet observant man, always listening and replying with a word of wisdom or quick-witted answer and a hearty laugh. Everything in his life was orderly and neat as a pin. He loved chocolate chip cookies, the Iowa Hawkeyes, volunteering at ReStore, traveling with friends and family, attending live performances, and craft beer.
Mike is survived by his wife, Jan, of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Sarah (Ethan) Connors of Davenport; his grandson, Cohen Connors; two brothers, Tom (Linda) Blevins of Parkersburg and Jerry (Joan) Blevins of Cottage Grove, Wisc.; a brother-in-law, Brian Klever (Susan) of Long Grove, Iowa; three nieces and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christopher Blevins; and a nephew, Zach Blevins.
Thank you to Cedar Valley Hospice and the entire staff of Nation Cottage for the love and care you gave to a man you never really knew. You are forever in our hearts.
Public visitation will be from 4 until 7 pm on Thursday, Feb. 22 at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo. A private service will be held at a later date.
Memorials: may be directed to Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity or UNI Demetia Simulation House.
