Michael J. Boatman

Michael J. Boatman, 82, of Lafayette, went to join our Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at his residence.

He was born October 11, 1943, in Williamsport, IN, to the late Samuel Boatman and Ellen (Briar) Boatman Robinson.

Michael graduated from East Tipp High School in 1962.

He married Judy Emery 62 years ago on January 3, 1964 at Hope Chapel and she survives.

Michael worked as an electrician for Twin City Electric for several years before retiring.

He could often be found tinkering in his workshop in the garage. His greatest past time was watching family and friends' children play sports of any kind. He was their biggest fan. If you were related to this man or not, we know he came and watched you, your kids, or grandkids or all of the above play sports. He probably watched more youth sporting events than anyone ever has from Tippecanoe County. He sometimes gave a little advice and always gave a "good job" no matter how they did. Michael was a diehard Purdue and McCutcheon supporter. He also enjoyed racing of any kind and supporting his grandson Justin while he was racing go carts and late models.

Surviving with his wife, Judy I. Boatman of Lafayette, is a son, Michael (Tracey) Boatman of Lafayette, a daughter, Tracy (Kevin) Sondgeroth of Lafayette, three grandchildren, Justin Sondgeroth of Clarks Hill, Baylie (Brock Derhammer) Boatman of Lafayette, and Taylor (Dustin) Smith of SC. Also surviving are a great grandson, Walker Derhammer, bonus great grandchildren, Avery Derhammer, Baylor Smith, Braxton Smith, Blake Garrett and Nikki Gallivan and baby "C" on the way.

Michael was preceded in death by his brother, James "Jimbo" Robinson and a sister, Vicki Reed.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 also at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with Pastor Tom Camp officiating. Interment will follow at Meadow View Cemetery in Lafayette, IN.
