It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Lee Boehm, a Montana cowboy and outfitter. Michael passed away on November 26, 2023, at the age of 73. He was spending Thanksgiving with his stepson, Bryan Has The Pipe, and stepdaughter, Jennifer LaMere, in Phoenix, Arizona and was surrounded by his family during his final moments.
Michael, born on June 13, 1950, in Missoula, Montana, had a childhood deeply influenced by the awe-inspiring landscapes of his home state. His parents, Carl T. Boehm and Mildred L. Kenyon, instilled in him a resilient and adventurous spirit.
In service to his country, Michael proudly served in the Army, including a tour of duty in Vietnam from January 1971 to April 1971. Tragically, he endured severe injuries necessitating many months of hospitalization at Madigan Hospital and Fort Bragg.
Upon returning home, Michael was active with Vietnam Veterans against the War and was one of the creators of the Borrowed Times, an early underground paper in Missoula. It was during this time he met his life-long friend Ray Pierson.
Following his military service, Michael had many careers with his many talents. He was a journalist, a mechanic, a logger, a cowboy, and an outfitter. Starting in Chico, Park County, and later in Wilsall, he guided fishing trips in Yellowstone Park and hunting trips in the Crazy Mountains until a logging accident in 1996 left him disabled, forcing him to retire from his outfitting career. He was also known through Bob and Lu's in Livingston.
Michael was married to Dawn Holliday, and together they formed a blended family, including stepchildren, nieces and nephews whom he assisted in raising with love and care. He extended a helping hand to any nephew or niece in need. Michael valued his unwavering friendship and support to others.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, sister Darlene Hagen and brother Derry Boehm. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Holliday, stepchildren Jennifer LaMere and Bryan Has The Pipe, as well as Tonee and Sammi Boehm, Mikey and Amanda Wheeler, and numerous nieces and nephews. His last surviving sibling is Chara Boehm. Additionally, he leaves behind grandchildren Asa, Ciara, Michael, and Paris Henson, and Chase Has The Pipe.
Known for his mastery of the outdoors, Michael was an advocate for peace and environmental conservation. Whether on horseback or gathered around a campfire, he shared captivating stories of his adventures in Montana, which shaped his life. Despite a sometimes cantankerous nature, he was the glue that held his family together, with his warm smile, twinkling eyes, and his beloved beard, which he maintained from his discharge from the army until his passing.
A summer celebration has been planned to honor the life of Michael and bring his family together in the picturesque setting of Montana, which he cherished. The details of the event, including the date and venue, will be announced on Facebook and through the Livingston Enterprise at a later time. Friends and loved ones are warmly welcomed to participate and share their cherished memories of this remarkable individual. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the support and kindness shown during this difficult time.
