Michael Vaughn “Mike” Brady, 74, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 31, 1951 in Guilford County, to the late Joe Brady, Sr. and Annie Ruth Boone Brady. Michael devoted his life to hard work and family, leaving behind a legacy of love that will forever be remembered.
Throughout his life, Mike was a dedicated worker. He began his career as a roofer, applying his strong work ethic and skills to provide for his loved ones. Later, he took his talents to the Cone Mill Minneola Plant before ultimately finding his place at US Airways, where he spent many fulfilling years before retiring.
Beyond his work, Mike was defined by his passion for life’s simple pleasures. He found immense joy in spending time with his beloved family, especially during fun gatherings at the beach, where he could often be seen riding his golf cart with laughter and enthusiasm. His love for fishing brought him immense happiness, particularly those peaceful moments spent by the water with his friends and his brother, Randy.
His family meant the world to him, and he especially treasured the time spent with his wife of 54 years, Shirley Hurley Brady. Their bond was a testament to true love strengthened over the decades. Mike’s legacy lives on through his loving daughter, Terry Cain, and her husband Rodney. He was a proud grandfather to Brandon Cain (Kristen), Kristin Locklear (Elan), and Phillip Dustin Overman, each of whom brought him great pride and happiness. His heart swelled even more with joy at the sight of his great-grandchildren, Lancen, Bricen, Kulayuh, and Malachi, whose laughter filled his life with a sense of wonder; and several nieces and nephews.
Mike has now been reunited with his parents; his daughter, Kathy Overman; his grandson, Michael Cole Overman; his brother, Joe Randy Brady; and his sister-in-law, Helen Brady.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to their family members, Dianne and Keith Wolford and Tonya Brady for their loving kindness and support during Michael’s illness. Their compassion during this challenging time has been a source of comfort and strength.
To honor Mike’s wishes, the family is planning on a private memorial celebration at a later date. His spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives he touched, reminding us all to cherish the simple joys and precious moments that life offers.
