Michael "Mike" Bundy, 78, of New London, passed away Wednesday, January 7 at his home. His Memorial Service will be 1 pm, Sunday, January 11 at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake near New London. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm, Saturday, January 10 at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Burial will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls at a later date. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

Michael Lee Bundy was born on November 13, 1947, in Alexandria, Minnesota, to George and Esther (Krohnfeldt) Bundy. He grew up in Alexandria and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1966. He continued his education at Brainerd Technical College, earning an Associate's Degree in 1973.

On May 22, 1971, Mike was united in marriage to Linda Thompson in Alexandria. Together they shared many years of life, family, and community.

Mike dedicated much of his professional life to public service and education. He worked as a Fisheries Technician for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for 30 years, retiring in 2004. His love of the outdoors extended beyond his career-he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and playing cards. He also had a remarkable ability to identify plants and was a natural teacher who enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. Mike served as a firearm safety instructor and later worked as an educator at Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center. He also served his community as a school bus driver for Palmer Bus.

Mike proudly served his country in the United States Marines, enlisting in 1966, and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He attained the rank of Sergeant in the Marines and later served for 20 years in the National Guard, achieving the rank of Major. He held leadership roles including Commander of the 1st Battalion, 136th Infantry Division Combat Support Company in St. Cloud, Post Commander for the VFW in Belgrade, Post Commander and Chaplain for the American Legion Post 537 in New London.

A man of faith, Mike was a member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. During his time there, he served in many roles, including usher, lector, choir member, and as a member of the Social Concerns Committee.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Bundy of New London; children, Glenn (Sheri) Bundy of Paynesville and Beth (Ashley Keul) Bundy of Sheboygan, WI; and grandchildren, Devin (Allison) Bundy and Halle (Jai) Brooks.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Clara Mae Tvrdik; and brothers, Guy Bundy and Thomas Bundy.

Linda, my prayers are with you and your children and grand children during this sorrowful time. I did not know Mike very well. But I remember the first time I met him so many years ago. I remember thinking he had the eyes of a kind and genuinely nice man. His eyes were the mirror of his soul. You two were blessed to have each other for all these years.
I am so sad for you.
Love you
Christine
