Michael Butkovic Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home - Waterbury on Mar. 3, 2026.
WATERBURY

Michael J. Butkovic

"Beloved husband, father, brother & grandfather"

Michael "Buck" "Big Mike" J. Butkovic, 72, of Waterbury, was called home on Friday, February 27, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Theresa (Ginty) Butkovic for over fifty-one years.

Mike was born in Philadelphia, PA, on September 6, 1953, a son of the late Andrew and Theresa (Kurtz) Butkovic. He attended The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and went on to build a successful career in sales, most notably as a District Salesman for Frigidaire, where he was known for his strong work ethic and personable nature.

Mike lived a life grounded in faith, family, and friendship, finding his greatest happiness in the people and traditions he loved most. Horse racing was one of his true passions, and some of his favorite days were spent at Saratoga Race Course, sharing laughter, excitement, and lasting memories with friends - especially his best friend, Tony. Mike gave generously of his time to youth athletics, devoting countless hours to coaching with the Bucks Hill Bombers of AABC and Wilson Post American Legion Baseball. Through his leadership, encouragement, and steady presence, he helped shape not only strong athletes but confident young people, leaving a lasting legacy in the community. He also proudly served as president of the Waterbury Sandy Koufax League. Each year, Mike looked forward to returning to Philadelphia, where reconnecting with extended family and revisiting his lifelong roots brought him immense joy.

Besides his beloved wife Theresa of Waterbury, Mike leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter Kristina DiDominzio and her husband Vincent III of Southington along with their children Vincent DiDominzio IV and Madelyn DiDominzio; his son Michael Butkovic and his wife Jacqueline of Litchfield along with their children Olivia Butkovic, Aubrie Delarosa, Kaley Butkovic and Colin Delarosa; and his daughter Kathryn Bird and her husband Derek of Southington along with their children Mia Bird and Kelsey Bird. He also leaves behind his sister, JoAnn Konopka of Denver, PA; his brother-in-law, Monsignor Thomas M. Ginty of Wolcott.

Arrangements: A funeral will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 8:45 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT to St. Pius X Church, St. Basil the Great Parish in Wolcott for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. Calling hours for Michael will be held Friday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial Funeral Home.
