Michael John Catlett, age 91 years, 7 months and 21 days of Cuba, Missouri, formerly of
Steelville, MO, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at the Dixon Nursing and Rehab in Dixon, MO.
Michael was born October 28, 1933 in Cruse, MO to William Henry Catlett and Sara Christine Catlett, nee Richardson.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959 and was transferred to the 11th USA Corps Reserve until 1963.
On March 1, 1958 in Ft. Benning, GA, he was united in marriage to Anna McConnell and to this union, two sons and one daughter were born. They lived in Kirkwood, MO for several years and Michael was employed as a mechanic for the City of Kirkwood, retiring after 25 years.
They moved to Steelville after retirement and later to Cuba. He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church for 20 years, serving several years as an usher. He was also a member of the D.A.V. (Disabled Army Veterans). Michael was a driver until 90 years of age for the Disabled Veterans, having 4,357 hours and 17 years of voluntary service. He was honored this year, 2025, on the 25th of April from the Department of Veterans Affairs for that service.
Michael also spent time wood working in his garage and enjoyed displaying his Nativity scene during Christmas each year.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sara Catlett; three brothers, Edward, Joe and Roy Catlett; three sisters, Betty (Bob) Hodges, Veronica (Jack) Adams and Pauline (Andy) O'Brien; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Amos and Walter King.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 67 years, Anna Catlett; two sons, Mike (Teresa) Catlett of St. Peters, MO and Ron Catlett of Rogers, AR; one daughter, Sandra (David) Welch of University City, MO; 12 grandchildren, Justin Welch, Todd (Ashley) Welch, Stephanie (Alex) Bolinger, Shaun Catlett, Rachel (Garrett) Neuer, Brian Catlett, Brendan Catlett, Clayton Catlett, Tyler Catlett, Macy (Jacob) Matheny, Mia Catlett and Gabbie Catlett; 8 great-grandchildren, Kent, Jacob, Mary Felicity, Leo, Tatum, Asher, Everly and Nichole; four sisters, Virginia Bailey of
Steelville, MO, Catherine Amos of St. Peters, MO, Margie King of Cuba, MO and Gertrude Moses of OK; other relatives; and friends.
The Family received friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in
Steelville, MO.
A Funeral Service was held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, June 21, 2025 with Father Tony Onyeihe officiating. Special music of "Ava Maria", "On Eagle's Wings" and "Amazing Grace" was played. Scripture readings were spoken by Teresa Catlett.
Committal prayer and interment with Full Military Honors by the U.S. Army and Rolla VFW Post 2025 were in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba, MO. Honored to be casket bearers were grandchildren, Todd Welch, Brian Carter, Stephanie Bolinger, Brendan Catlett, Ron Catlett and Shaun Catlett with Clayton Catlett leading as he carried the lighted candle.
Memorials may be given in lieu of flowers to the Holy Cross Church.
