Michael Conrad Sauer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by City View Funeral Home and Cemetery from Mar. 12 to Mar. 13, 2026.
Michael Conrad Sauer was born May 21, 1939, in Mason City, Iowa, to Robert and Billie Sauer. Following moves that included Yakima and Vancouver, the family settled in Salem in 1949.
After graduating from South Salem High School in 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1961. During his service, he was a Crew Chief on a U.S. Navy EC-121 "Super Connie" airborne early warning aircraft based out of Point Mugu, California.
After the Navy, he served in the Air National Guard from 1961 to 1977 as a Tech Sergeant and Mess Section Cook for his unit.
He worked for a number of businesses installing floor coverings and countertops, including his father's business, Sauer Floor Coverings, from 1961 to 1973.
Mike enjoyed reading, fishing, cooking, and sharing a good joke with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rose (1979), his wife Connie (2017), and his daughter Kellie Ivanhoff (2010).
He is survived by his sister Sharon Bates (Salem, Oregon), brother Dave Sauer (Raquel, West Jordan, Utah), sister Jo Cottle (Royce, Woodinville, Washington), daughter Karen Sauer (Harvey Larsen, Mill City, Oregon), sons Conrad Sauer (Angela, Grand Lake, Colorado) and Scott Sauer (Carrie, Scottsdale, Arizona), 8 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Mike will be remembered for his humor, his love of family, and the stories he loved to share.
Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
