Death Notice

Michael Corak

1932 - 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Michael (Milan) Corak announce the passing of
their beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Mike spent 91
well-lived years until he peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by his family
on October 8, 2023. A retired resident of Rockledge, FL, Mike raised his family and
spent many years in Northwest Indiana, which will be his final resting place.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife Loretta, daughter Eugenia (William) Anderson,
and son Anthony (Theresa) Corak. He was a cherished grandfather to Natalie, Michael,
Lauren, and Adam who will fondly remember his humor and unwavering adoration.
Born to Tomo and Marija (Rajkovic) Corak in Vrhovine (Lika), Yugoslavia on January
06, 1932, Michael was the eldest of five children: Manda, Ike, Helen, and Ladd, whom
he loved deeply. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Ike.
Displaced from Croatia (former Yugoslavia) by the turmoil of World War II, Michael and
his family made the arduous journey to America via refugee camps in Germany where
he lost his loving mother. The family ultimately settled in East Chicago, Indiana, where
he started a 41-year career at the Inland Steel Company. In 1959 he met his wife,
Loretta. They married in 1961 and spent his remaining 62 years of his life by her side.
Mike will be remembered as being proud of and dedicated to his family. He was always
willing to help shovel snow, paint a house, or fix a broken clock all while making
clear his opinions on virtually every topic which came to mind. In his young adult life,
"Uncle Mike" relished spending time with his nieces and nephews. Later as "Grandpa"
he loved attending the sporting events of his grandchildren and grandnephew. It was
truly one of the greatest joys in the latter years of his life, always their biggest
cheerleader on the sidelines or in the stands. The goodness in his heart will both ensure his place in heaven, as well as his lasting
memory in his wife, daughter, son, sisters, brother, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and
all who have crossed his path along his amazing 91-year journey. Rest in Peace.
