Michael Johns Crawford 71, of Provo, Utah passed away on January 7, 2025 after a long battle with COPD.
Born on June 28, 1953, Michael was the oldest of six children. He was a quiet boy who grew up with is brothers and sisters creating adventures and mischief in the neighborhood.
They picked cherries at a neighbor’s orchard in the summers to earn spending money, built obstacle courses in the backyard and could often be seen riding their red bicycles up to the Provo spillway to swim and fish.
Every time they gathered as adults they retold the stories of their childhood with a lot of laughter and delight.
Mike was a free spirit. A tall, dark, handsome and athletic man with stunning blue eyes. He was not a man of many words. Yet, he spoke with perfect grammar and had excellent handwriting.
As a teenager in the early seventies he played football at Provo High School. Later he became part of the hippie movement. In a restless world that was searching for a new way of thinking and living.
He spent countless hours fishing along the Provo river banks and playing his harmonica in the parks. He and his brother Kim shared a love of music.
He lived most of his life on the road camping and fishing in the high Uinta Mountains and Canyon lands of Utah. He endured many hardships in his life. Sometimes we wouldn’t see him for months at a time. But, we knew sooner or later, his adventures would bring him home. It was always a relief when he came to the door.
We are comforted to know that once again, he has returned home. This time to the open arms of our parents and family members who have gone on before him.
Michael is survived by his brother Kim R. Crawford, sisters Jolene A. Crosby, Karin (Richard) Singleton, Janet (Pedram) Aram. He was preceded in death by his parents, William David Crawford and Caroline B. Crawford and his younger brother Paul David Crawford.
We love you Michael. You taught us compassion, tolerance and patience. And we were slow to learn…
We will look for your essence in the flowing rivers that you loved until we meet again.
The family would like to thank the staff at Canterbury Assisted Living for their care of Michael. And our deepest thank you to a special brother-in law Richard Singleton for his devoted service to Michael for so many years.
In lieu of flowers or a formal service, we ask that you help someone in need when you see the opportunity. Mike would want that.
