Michael James Deakins, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2022 in his home in Crown Point, Indiana. Mike graduated from Purdue University and went on to become a Mechanical Engineer and a dedicated member of MENSA. He was known for tinkering and using his hands building model airplanes and clippers, painting, and hunting. His favorite past time was working on special house projects with his father, Fredrick, and his son, Eric. As a teen, he loved spending his time at the local soda and ice cream shop with his friends. He also helped his father Fred Sr. build their 3-story home on Farmsworth Ave. in Bordentown, New Jersey which is a historical site to this day.
Mike was born in Waltham, Massachusetts to Mary Ann (Fender) and Fredrick Deakins. He grew up with four siblings: Debbie Funderburk, Randy Deakins, Peggy Carmichael and Fred Deakins. In his college years, he met his wife, Brenda (Clark), when he went to ISU for a Homecoming football game. They married in 1973 and had two children: Eric (Tracy) Deakins and Laura (Chris) Price. Later in life, he went on to marry Yvonne (Prince) and was blessed with two stepdaughters: Stephanie Richardson and Mindy Padgett. Throughout his life he was blessed with nine grandchildren: Olivia and Layla; Cody and Kyle; Melody and Miranda; Preston, Brooklyn and Austin, as well as three great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be held at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN on Monday, July 25, 2022, from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 2 p.m.
