Michael Dickinson Obituary

Michael Richard Dickinson

April 6, 1960 - November 22, 2025

SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Michael Richard Dickinson, 65, passed away on November 22, surrounded by those who loved him. Born on April 6, 1960, in Glens Falls and raised in South Glens Falls, Michael, known to most simply as "Mike", spent his life deeply connected to the community he held dear.

Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Wanda Dickinson, and his children, Tanya Dickinson and Leah Dickinson (Nick Bahr). He was also stepfather to Charlamagne Mapes (Ben). As a loving grandfather, he leaves behind Ien and Jozlynn Jones, Kristian, Lula, and Sebastian Dickinson, Lydia and Layla Bahr, along with Leeann Mapes, Mallory Mapes, and Malachai Savage, each of whom brought tremendous joy and meaning to his life.

He is also survived by his brothers, Terry Dickinson (Sandi), Jay Dickinson (Cindi), Matthew Dickinson (Evelyn), Paul Dickinson (Mary), and his sister, Amy Polmanteer (Bryan). Mike was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Joan Dickinson, and his brother, Peter Dickinson.

For over 25 years, Mike worked as a millwright at Finch Pruyn, where he was a member of Local 360.

Outside of work, he was widely known as a passionate local historian and active historical reenactor starting with the Eastern Woodland Alliance then starting his own company, Jacob's Ranger's, he took the role very seriously and was a great leader and ambassador for local history, even being featured on the New York State tourism poster commemorating the 250th anniversary of the French and Indian War. He is fondly known by many as Two Dogs & Chief Jacob Cheeksaunkun.

His enthusiasm for history, his deep knowledge, and his generous spirit enriched the community for decades. He was also a proud co-founding member of the Calico Dancers.

Mike had a remarkable gift with children and played a meaningful, lasting role in the lives of his grandchildren. His humor, patience, wisdom, and gentle nature made him beloved by all who knew him.

Those who knew Mike will remember him as a man who lived life entirely on his own terms, marching to the beat of a different drummer. His individuality, kindness, and unwavering sense of self form a legacy that will be long cherished. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

Friends and family may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2025, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main St. South Glens Falls, N.Y.
