DUERKSEN, MICHAEL W. of Ortonville; February 8, 2026; age 78; Beloved husband of Pastor Mary Duerksen; Cherished father of Cindi (Lauren) Wolfgang, Catherine Duerksen, Amy (Josh) Barnhart, Michael (Liz) Duerksen and Jackie (Steve) Russell; Proud grandfather of Austin, Dominic, Teddy, Aleah, Georgia, J.D., Augie and Carly; Dear brother of John (Suni) Duerksen, Patricia (Mark) Holden and Richard (Prayad) Duerksen; Also survived by his aunt and many cousins. Mr. Duerksen was a member of Spirit of Grace Church and a Vietnam veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked for the General Motors Corporation, Warren Tech Center and Warren Transmission Plant. He was formerly a member of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Warren. He enjoyed singing with the Men's Eastside Barbershop Chorus and the Community Chorus of Detroit. He was a licensed lay minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) and active with the Gordon Setter Club of Michigan. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Spirit of Grace Church, 2399 Figa Avenue, West Bloomfield. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Riverside Chapel, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, 5630 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford and at Spirit of Grace on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery. Participating Clergy are invited to vest in white. Memorials may be made to Spirit of Grace, Community Chorus of Detroit or Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Warren.
