Michael DuMez Obituary
Michael was born December 22, 1945, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the son of Bernard and Beatrice (nee Dirkse) DuMez. He attended Oostburg Christian School and graduated from Oostburg High School in 1964. He went on to study at Dordt College (University) and UW Stevens Point, earning his Masters Degree in Environmental Stewardship.
In Sheboygan, On September 2, 1967, Michael was united in marriage with Jean Theune.
Michael was an active member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg. He enjoyed natural landscaping, volunteering, camping, traveling, and coaching. He will be remembered as thoughtful, witty, and always ready for a conversation. Above all, he was a loving and faithful husband and father, and an insightful and attentive Grandpa.
For 45 years as a Christian educator, Michael shaped countless lives teaching God's order, plan, and purpose. He retired from Oostburg Christian School and started Creation Insights educational services in 2001.
Michael is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean; daughter Ann (Fred) DuMez-Matheson of Seattle, WA; sons: Mark (Erin) DuMez of Chemainus, BC, Jack (Kristin) DuMez of Grand Rapids, MI and Dean (Andrea) DuMez of Sheboygan. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Hannah, Ruby, Zachary, Eva, Louisa, Michael, Julia, Jack and Amelia; sisters Jane (Duane) LeBreck of Oostburg, Sue (Art) Dulmes of Sheboygan Falls and L. Don (Mary Lou) DuMez of Oostburg; sisters-in-law Vonnie DuMez of Oostburg and Judy DuMez of Sheboygan; brothers-in-law Jack (Marion) Theune of Sheboygan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Marilyn and brother-in-law Keith Brill, brother Duane DuMez, sister-in-law Jan and brother-in-law Bob Reimersma, and brother-in-law Dave DuMez.
A Memorial Service celebrating God's work in Michael's life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg.
In lieu of flowers, any gifts received will be given as a memorial to Oostburg Christian School and Sheboygan Christian School.

Mr DuMez introduced my 7th/8th grade class to track and field when he first came to teach and serve as principal of Milwaukee Christian School. It was the first time I realized that I was good at it! I went on to run track & field in high school and I never would have considered it if it weren't for Mr. Du Mez. Of course, my family had other connections with the DuMez family, too. I send them all my condolences and pray that God will hold them close and give them His comfort and peace.
