Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pedersen Ryberg Funeral Home on Oct. 4, 2025.
Michael Joseph Eder, age 68, of
Elmhurst, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Mike was the loving husband of Elizabeth, devoted father of Stephanie (Michael Scudder) and Lauren, beloved son of the late Bill and Ann Eder, brother to Bill (Marilyn), Jay (Carole) and Tom Eder.
Mike was also a valued member of his in-law family, Stephanie Ferrera, Regina (Antonio Foyo), Vincent (Beth Miller), Anthony (Elena), Victoria (Kevin Shalla), and Christine (Dan Hanrahan). Fond uncle to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Born in Chicago on August 13, 1957, Mike grew up in Schiller Park and attended St. Maria Goretti School and East Leyden High School. From a young age, he excelled as an athlete, especially in baseball and hockey. His passion for sports carried throughout his life into adulthood, leading him to play Forward on semi-professional hockey teams, and many years with the Hustlers softball league alongside his close friends.
In 1980, he met the love of his life, Liz, and married in 1984. Together they built a life full of love and laughter, made their home in Elmhurst where they lived for 38 years and raised their two daughters, Stephanie (born August 1991) and Lauren (born September 1996).
He was a devoted Catholic throughout his life, first as a member of St. Maria Goretti Parish and later as part of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Bensenville. His faith guided him, as he found strength and community in the church.
A skilled carpenter and proud member of the Mid-America Carpenters Union, formerly Chicago Carpenters Local 181, Mike was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and craftsmanship. His legacy in carpentry will live on because of the work he did on buildings, homes, and public facilities all around the Chicago area. Beyond his work, he was happy and fulfilled by the simple joys of life; he loved golfing, fishing, walking the dogs, and spending time with loved ones. He had a gift for making people laugh, creating levity and joy wherever he went. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Mike will always remember the sound of his goofy laugh.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, loyal friend, and someone who cherished spending time with others. Forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Pedersen Ryberg Funeral Home, 435 North York Street, Elmhurst. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Visitation Catholic Church, 779 North York Street, Elmhurst.
