Michael Dean Edwards, 67, passed on August 26, 2024. Born on November 18, 1956, in Liberal, Kansas, Michael graduated from Liberal High School, where he met Lenora Marie Braun. The two were married in December 1977, and in December 1979, they welcomed their first child, Christopher.
His early career began as an electronics and microwave radio technician at Kansas University. He later joined Sprint in Kansas City, where he rose to the rank of Principal Engineer. During their time in Kansas City, Michael and Lenora expanded their family, welcoming two more children: Jennifer, born in August 1987, and Joshua, born in October 1989. Michael continued his education in Kansas City, earning both a Bachelor's degree in Business from Ottawa University and a Master's in Business Administration from Baker University.
In 1999, Michael moved the family to Oregon, where he led a program designing next-generation telecom equipment for a small startup. After the dot-com bubble burst, Michael transitioned to a new career in real estate and mortgage lending.
While in Oregon, Lenora was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. Although she initially overcame the disease, it returned in 2011, and she sadly passed away in March 2014. Following Lenora's passing, Michael returned to Kansas City to live with his son, Christopher.
In 2018, Michael began a new chapter as a long-haul truck driver. While on the road, he fell ill and suffered an injury in a fall, leading to a hospital stay where he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He moved in with Christopher and his wife, Sara, in Minnesota, where they cared for him.
In 2022, after Christopher relocated for work, Michael moved to Florida to be closer to his mother, Dorothy "Doe" Edwards. Michael passed away on August 26, 2024, and just days later, his mother Doe followed him, passing on August 28.
Michael had a passion for motorcycles, both riding and working on them, and found joy in the freedom of the open road. He is survived by siblings, Terry, Opal, and Joel; his children: Christopher, Jennifer, and Joshua, as well as his grandchildren: Jason, Conner, Luke, Evelyn, and Emerson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 20th, 2024 at the Grant Street Church of Christ in Liberal, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Forgan Cemetery in Forgan, Oklahoma.
