I didn't know you, but was a responder with FEMA in the weeks after 9/11. All the lost firefighters are always in my heart, but today as I was going through some momentos at my home, I saw the badge with your name that I wore over my heart as I sang in the 2002 Rolling Requiem. I hope that our children and the generations that follow will remember and honor those who lost their lives on that day, especially those who gave it all to help others.

I was looking at an old class picture today from PS 29. It brought back memories of how they always made us line up in size order. For years, I was second in line, and Mikey was always right in front of me. The smallest kid in the class, but always the biggest personality. We were very close as kids, and though we drifted apart a bit after high school, and only saw each other now and then, I always considered Mikey my friend. I still do. He will always be remembered. My heart goes out to the entire Elferis family and all of Mikey's closest friends. Today and everyday. R.I.P. my friend.

Here is Texas we often joke about the differences between Southerners and 'Yankees', advertisers even make light of it. At the time of 9/11, we were reminded how we are Americans first of all, and I worked at MetLife at the time, so I especially felt a bond with my dear brothers and sisters in NYC who had lost loved ones. We all came together, patriotism and church attendance was at an all-time high. We couldn't say enough good things about the first responders. For some, sadly, the memories have faded, but I for one will keep that torch held high, and pray each and every day for the friends and family of heroes like you! From the comments I have read, you were a great guy. Such a tragic day for such a young man. I pray for strength and encouragement for those you left behind. Love from Texas.

although I never met you or had ever heard of your name before today. I belong to a crossfit gym and today we did a tribute workout called "343"
100 lunges (each leg)
80 kettlebell swings (35 lbs)
60 wall balls (14 lbs)
40 pull-ups
20 deadlifts (175 lbs)
43 burpees
making 343 reps. we all picked a fallen firefighter to honor and I picked you. you pushed me to persevere through my workout and I fought harder than ever. every time I would get tired I looked at your picture and knew how much you fought to save others and I should keep fighting. thank you for being selfless and being an inspiration for me today.

My family and I visited the the site in 2010 and I purchased a bracelet at the visitors center. I will once again take it out of my jewelry box and say prayers for you and your family. May you continue to rest in peace and may we all be reminded of the hero's of that day.

I wish I could have met you. Everything you have done in your life was filled with positivity, and changed things around you for the better. I took part in a 9/11 memorial stair climb, and carried your picture and name. At the end, I rang a bell and spoke your name in front of a crowd. I requested to have your name again. I will keep you in my thoughts, and continued to be inspired by you. Rest easy brother. -Nicholas Bracken

Not one day passes by where I don't think about you. You lived life the way we all should. Whenever I doubt myself, I think "Hey, Mike would have just done it". Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your life. I'll never forget my grandmother staring at you passed out on my couch and asking in Spanish "Who is the white guy on the couch?". And my response was "I don't know, but he paid for drinks last night!". I hope that made everyone reading this laugh. I am glad we kissed each other on the cheek hello and goodbye. Real men can do that. You were and always will be the man. I love you brother. You are missed.

Mikey,
I thought of you all day and often have you on my mind. I wonder about how I've reconnected with so many people I've known in my life through the facebook website and how I'm so sure we would of also. I remember the last time I saw you at the Def Leppard concert at Jones Beach and it had been years that we hadn't seen each other but we connected instantly. It's pretty wild that my memories of knowing you from over 25 years ago are still so vivid and clea. Those memories and thoughts of you live on in my heart. You were always smiling and fun to be around. You are deeply missed but never forgotten. I hope your family is doing well. I think of them also and send out my prayers for them now and always..

Well, it's September 11th again, and here we are again missing you like always. Woke up today totally pissed off, our hearts so heavy with sadness. So many families are suffering with the tremendous loss of their loved ones- especially today. Hearing your name spoken at the memorial is surreal. It's still unbelievable that you lost your beautiful young life as did so many others for no good reason. It's so hard not to wonder how you would be if you were still here with us.
Today and always we love and honor you, for the friend that you were and the heroic job that you did. We miss you. Our thoughts are with your family.

Dear Mikey & Family
I dont know you but Im thinking of you.
You see after 9/11 a radio dj put on a HUGE charity motorcycle ride here in phx. az. There were over 7000 motor cycles in this event. They gave out wrist bands of the fallen and I got yours. I wore your wrist band with the highest honor I could. It gave me chills and I remember crying while on this ride. As far as I could see in front of me and behind me there was a two row line of bikes and people lining the streets and signs along the route. All these people paying tribute to those that had fallen. I will never forget. I still have your wrist band and I always will. I will be wearing this and thinking of you on this day. My prayers go out to you and your family.
From an unknown friend God Bless you Mikey!! P.S. My nickname is Mikey also.

Dear Mikey,
I can't say that I knew you well when you were here with us, but I can say that I know you well now... I must say that you are everywhere, to all the people who knew you and to this day, who love you so much. We would all be so lucky to be loved like you were loved. You made an impact not only by giving your life, but the friendships you held, the laughs you shared and the crazy things you did. I know you now through your beautiful family and all of your friends that will never, ever recover from the space you left behind. You are mentioned at every occassion. How many times it's been said "wish Mikey was here to see this", You are missed. I thought you should know that although we did'nt know eachother that well..that I honor you for the best friend you were to my husband. He loved you so much and misses you more than words can say. We have a son now, and I know he would have loved for you to know him (even for a day). Just wanted you to know that I will try to take care of him and make him laugh..alot, for you. You are in our thoughts and prayers always.

To the family of Michael J. Elferis,
Your son was a courageous man who answered the call of duty when it was needed most. He rushed into the collapsing World Trade Centers to save people he didn’t even know. The terrorist attack which has robbed you of a loved one will not be forgotten and even in your sadness, I’m sure you must be proud of your son, Michael, for making the ultimate sacrifice so that another person might live. This sacrifice is something that nobody will ever forget. On a personal note, though I was young at the time, I will always be inspired by the acts of bravery Michael and others performed that day. I have one last thing to say and that is, we will never forget. God bless Michael and all the others who died that day.
Respectfully
Eric
