My husband and I were vacationing in Brewster in June/July 2004. The Cape held fond memories for my husband since his family had vacationed there since he was a child. We were sitting outside eating ice cream at a local ice cream shop when Michael came up to us and started a conversation. For the remainder of our vacation, Michael became a wonderful part of our lives. He invited us to a family cookout where he grilled a huge sea bass - the most delicious fish I have ever tasted. We enjoyed meeting his family and, especially, talking with his parents. We went to the Chatham parade with him where he seemed to know everyone. We kept in touch for some time afterwards. We never forgot him and always loved his beautiful kindness.

I'm so very sorry! Michael was a good friend when he was in West Virginia! We had many interesting legal 'adventures'. We continued to stay in touch intermittently over the years.

The 1986 Freedom of information case was won for the children in WV. Michael was a wonderful friend to our parents and children. He will always be remembered by us as a friend and advocate for WV.

I loved the description of Michael's personality as magnetic because he was indeed that. He was a wonderful force of nature who had boundless energy and curiosity and a why not? attitude that was infectious. He was a very fun person who loved life. I am sorry that his life was cut short by Parkinsons. I will remember him as a remarkable person.

Michael and I took a unsanctioned road trip to the Cape in very early spring 1970 in a VW bug to observe a full solar eclipse. And we knew two young women who lived up there. Mr. Chandlee wanted to know how he could lead the lacrosse team from Massachusetts. Michael laughed while recounting this to me. That is how I remember him, easy, happy, strong in the confidence of his decisions. He knew we would not be young forever, or maybe get to see a solar eclipse again, and lacrosse and Gilman authority, well, everything has its place in the order of life.
