Mike was an Agent's agent. I worked with Mike for three years and was constantly amazed at his understated intellect, ability to get along, and his gentlemanly behavior. He was a great role model and family man.

Mike never failed to support me as an educator and a course developer. That I wasn't a special agent didn't matter. What mattered was giving the students we were privileged to teach and train the best learning experience possible. Mike modeled that sentiment and led from the front. I will always be in his debt. A genuinely good man, the law enforcement community too should be in his debt. Thanks, Mike, for everything!

RIP Mike.
We crossed paths many times in our years at FBIHQ and WFO.
You were always a solid and sound colleague who could be counted on to give solid advice and input to whatever the situation dictated.

Mike was serving as a police officer on the Grosse Pointe Woods, MI Public Safety Department when I was working as an FBI agent in the Detroit office. My wife had actually met him before I did when she was serving as a volunteer probation officer. I knew Mike as an FBI agent at Quantico and our paths crossed many times during our careers. We even collaborated on some issues after our respective retirements to do training for the Major County Sheriffs. He was a fine man and exemplary public servant. He always spoke about his family, and I have no doubt his passing has left a large hole in their hearts. Mike, your life mattered to many, and you are missed. Rest in Peace my friend.

Mike became Unit Chief soon after I transferred into the Unit. I was looking for something new to do since my current assignment was rather undemanding and the Bureau, in its wisdom, had decided not to make me a Unit Chief. Mike met one on one with each unit member. I remember how welcome he made me feel. He continually joked that I was the only agent he had that requested a full length mirror (I needed it to practice magic tricks i did in class). He was bright and articulate. GBU.

Nothing tugs at the heart of aging men more than the news of the passing of one that just yesterday, we felt assured that there was yet more time left. I share in mourning the passing of a dear friend and professional associate. Mike and I were Unit Chiefs at Quantico in the mid 90's, I, leading the efforts in International Training and Mike, the polished and effective leader for management training in the FBI. It is rather doubtful that anyone could work with Mike without developing a deep love and appreciation for him. for Mike, it was always a win-win. He simply was not comfortable walking away from a discussion if he had not given more than he received. This is the way that he lived, and this is the way that I will always remember him. I am proud to join those of you and his dear family that will take him to his final rest. God bless you old buddy and may you rest in peace.

I was proud to be a classmate with Mike Ferrence in FBI New Agents' Class 78-14. Through our later FBI assignments, I made it a point to see Mike and talk with him as a friend. Mike was always very personable and professional with everyone, and he made the world a much better place wherever he went. He was always knowledgeable, personable, helpful, and a friend to everyone. He would go out of his way to help anyone who needed it, and would Volunteer to help without being asked. I am proud to have Mike as a friend. GOD needed his help, and so Mike is up there with Him now. Take Heart my friend, we shall meet again and chat again as Classmates and Friends.
