Michael Franczyk Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Homes - Chicago on Jan. 7, 2025.
Michael "Larry" Franczyk; beloved husband of Joyce; loving father of Michael D. (Susan), Jill Franczyk (Jason Flores), Meredith Franczyk (Adam Taylor), Lauren (Jeremy) Merritt; cherished grandfather of Michael W., Emilie, Xander, Benjamin, Tristan, Jules, and Violet; fond brother of David (Dorothy) Franczyk and the late Virginia (late Andrew) Collis; also a loving uncle and friend to many.
Michael grew up in Chicago and spent his childhood summers exploring the beauty of Wisconsin with his siblings and cousins, creating memories he carried with him throughout his life. "Larry" was a dreamer, always thinking a few steps ahead. He enjoyed the companionship of a dog by his side and had a passion for television-whether it was British mystery shows, crime dramas, thrillers, or nature documentaries. Traveling with Joyce was one of his greatest joys, with trips often centered around casinos and penny slots, yet always filled with laughter and unforgettable moments. That's not to say they didn't also take in the sights from around the U.S. along the way.
Larry's "adventurous" driving style may have caused a few tense moments for his wife and children, but it was just another part of his charm. In his later years, he drove a school bus for Sycamore and took great pride in caring for "his kids," ensuring they were safe while keeping their mischievous behavior in check. As a grandfather, he was a good sport about watching silly children's programming, reading books, and enjoying a bounty of desserts with his grandkids during celebratory events-moments they will always treasure.
Visitation Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. at COLONIAL-WOJCIECHOWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 6250 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago. Cremation will be private. Info: 773-774-0366.
