Michael J. "Jack" Furey, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine (Donovan) Furey.
Born in Boston on May 26, 1935, Jack was the son of the late Roger and Eileen (Fahey) Furey.
Jack's life was marked by a deep commitment to his family and faith. A true adventurer, he bicycled across America three times and sailed single-handedly from Maine to Puerto Rico. Weekends often found him watching various sports games with his children and grandchildren. Jack's love for the outdoors was evident in his gardening, where he spent countless hours tending to his tomatoes and feeding the birds. He had an extraordinary ability to find joy in life, make others laugh, and remain endlessly curious. Jack was an avid reader and lover of history, and he was cherished by family and friends for his legendary humor and storytelling.
Jack proudly served as an Army 82nd Airborne Pathfinder. Professionally, he was a respected entrepreneur in the circuitry and cable harness industry, known for his integrity, strong work ethic, and natural instincts.
A devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jack's greatest joy was his family. He remained deeply connected to his children and grandchildren, taking immense pride in their achievements and watching them flourish.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Karen Weamer and her husband Michael of Stamford, CT; his sons, Stephen Furey of Galveston, TX, Paul Furey and his husband Shawn Smith of Newbury, MA, James Furey and his wife Rose Marie of Westford, MA, and David Furey and his wife Jill of Holden, MA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Caitlin Hildebrandt, Sean McCabe, Michael Furey, Liam Furey, Quinlan Furey, Grace Furey, and Maeve Furey, as well as his great-grandchildren Lukas, Philip, and Natalie Hildebrandt. Jack also leaves behind his sister Theresa Bosio and her husband Charlie. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Roger and Peter Furey and his sisters Eileen and Mary Furey.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 10:00 am in St. Augustine Parish, 43 Essex Street, Andover. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will follow in West Parish Garden Cemetery, 129 Reservation Road, Andover.
Jack will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
