Michael Eugene "Mike" Gibson passed from this life on October 31, 2025, at the age of 57. Born on October 20, 1968, Mike's life was marked by faith, family, hard work, and a ready smile. He accepted Christ at an early age while attending Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Bastrop, Texas - a commitment that steadied him throughout his life.
He graduated from Bastrop High School, where he proudly played football. After graduation, he moved to Houston and later returned to the Austin area. Over the years, Mike served his community through positions with St. Edward's University, the City of Austin, and the State of Texas. He also earned certifications in low-voltage electrical installation, commercial truck driving, and building/apartment maintenance.
A devoted family man, Mike loved nothing more than time with the people he loved. When he wasn't with family, he was watching the Redskins, listening to music or working on his cars. His smile, generosity, and hands-on care will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mike was preceded in death by his biological father Dorris Lee Baker, as well as his grandparents Amiel and Edna Dove, Aaron and Irene Gibson, Clide and Helen Barnett.
He is survived by his beloved children, Dominique, Cedric, Jessica, Nicholas, and Shane; his parents Jessie and Clyde Barnett; his brothers Clyde, Anthony, Kendrick, Cedric, and David; his sisters, Catina, Angela, Erica, Cashana, Lisia, Tawiana, and Renee; and a host of aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
In remembrance of Mike, please keep his family in your prayers and consider honoring his memory by sharing a story, lending a helping hand to someone in need, or spending time with the people you love - just as Mike always did.
A viewing will be held 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Friday, November 14, 2025, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, 604 Hwy 95 North, Elgin TX 78621.
