Michael Glavin

Michael J. Glavin of Quincy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026 at the age of 83.

Born in Boston to the late Cornelius and Margaret (Buttimer) Glavin, Mike was one of nine siblings and grew up in the close knit community of Savin Hill attending St. Williams and Boston Technical High School, where he made lifelong friendships and built lasting memories.

Mike was married for 54 years to his late wife and best friend, Ann “Penny” Glavin. Together they built a life in Quincy centered on family. He was the proud father of Mollie Good and her husband Bill of Scituate, Megan Glavin and her partner Brian Franklin, Annie Ahern, and Cornelius Glavin, all of Quincy. While he treasured being a father, nothing brought him greater joy than being “Papa” to his grandchildren, Joseph Gaglione and his partner Shauna O’Donovan, Sarah, Rachel, Bridget, Ruby, Brian, Carolyn, Thomas, and Will. He was thrilled to become a Great Papa to Lana Avery.

Dear brother to Mary Costello and her husband Larry of Mashpee and Susan McAleney of Higham, Mike, is predeceased by his brothers Walter, William and Cornelius Glavin and his sisters, Margaret Murray, Katherine White and Imelda Meiggs. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Throughout his life, Mike was known for his unwavering devotion to his family. He worked two jobs so that Penny could stay home with the kids, yet he always made time to be with them, whether coaching their soccer teams or planning the next family vacation. From canoe trips down the Saco River to time spent on the Cape, at Loon Mountain, and in Maine with close family friends, Mike created lasting traditions filled with laughter and cherished memories.

Mike truly enjoyed his time playing golf, especially the annual road trips to Myrtle Beach with his oldest and closest friends. In later years, he enjoyed playing poker with his Squantum neighbors and taking family trips to the casino. As a proud and devoted Papa, he spent countless hours at basketball courts and football, baseball, and soccer fields, cheering louder than anyone else. He was, without question, his children’s and grandchildren’s greatest fan.

Mike proudly served his country as a mail clerk in the United States Army, a role that would later shape his long career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked for more than 30 years. He was a devoted friend of Bill W. for over 38 years, a commitment that became one of the most important parts of his life. Through that fellowship, he found strength and purpose, and he offered the same steady guidance and support to others that had been given to him.

In retirement, he returned to his beloved Savin Hill and ran the Savin Hill Variety Store, often with “Oldies 103” playing in the background. He was happiest there, surrounded by his lifelong friends and catching up with the familiar faces who stopped in each day. He proudly employed each of his children, passing down the strong work ethic and sense of responsibility that defined the man he was.

Mike’s legacy is one of love, strength, and a deep belief that family takes care of family. He showed through his actions that being present, working hard, and standing by one another through every stage of life is what matters most. Whether as a husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, or friend, he led with loyalty and generosity, always ready to lend a hand, offer advice, or simply show up. The traditions he created, the values he instilled, and the example he set will continue to guide his family for generations.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday March 13, 2026, from 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Saturday March 14, 2026, prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 11:00 AM.
