Dear Mary Catherine, Tom and Theresa,
I am so sorry to hear of Mike´s passing.
My first job out of college was in the Twin Cities and I stayed with Mike in his apartment on Summit Avenue across from St. Thomas until I found a place of my own in Minneapolis. He showed me around St. Paul, mostly the bars :), and we would meet up for bike rides along the Mississippi river and the lakes in South Minneapolis.
One winter, I convinced Mike that he should get some cross-country skis so we could go cross-country skiing in the city parks around Lake Nokomis. As you might imagine, that was not a pretty sight, but Mike was a good sport about it, and we had a running joke that his alter-ego was "Lars Yardstick - the famous Norwegian Olympic skier". Those were fun times!
Mike was a groomsman at my wedding to Barb in 1980, and I got busy with work and married life. Mike was also busy finishing law school and preparing for the bar exam, so we unfortunately fell out of touch with each other.
After multiple moves in Minnesota, Indiana and now in California, I still have my cross country skis stacked up in the garage and think fondly of your brother whenever I glance at them.
Take care,
Your cousin Brian
