Michael Julian Haight

Michael J. Haight, 57, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2022. Born in Wilmington on January 27, 1965, he was the son of the late Donald and Judith (Boys) Haight.
Mike was a graduate of John Dickinson High School and Wilmington College, class of 1987. He was employed with Delmarva Power and retired in January 2020 after 32 years of dedicated service.
One of Mike s passions from an early age was baseball. Some of his favorite memories came from playing on the 1983 World Series 16-18 Babe Ruth championship team, playing in college, and enjoying 14 seasons playing for Canada Dry in the Delaware Semi-Pro league before finishing his career in 2002 as the league MVP. Once his playing days were over, he enjoyed coaching and watching his children s sporting events.
Mike enjoyed the simple things in life including family vacations in Ocean City, MD, family holiday gatherings, outings to Delaware Park, and cheering on all the Philadelphia professional sports teams.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Leslie (Whiteside) Haight; his beloved children, Daniel, Rachel and Matthew; his brothers, Jim (Kathy) of Folsom, PA and Bob of Pike Creek, DE. Mike also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Patricia Rowe and brother-in-law and lifelong best friend, Scott Rowe of Newark, DE, as well as 5 beloved nephews and a niece.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses in the Christiana Care 2E CVCC unit for their exceptional care and compassion displayed to Mike and his family during the 6 weeks he was in their care.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Thursday, September 1 from 9:00 11:00AM, immediately followed by a service in honor of Mike. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mike may be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or the American Kidney Fund (www.kidneyfund.org).
