Michael Harrington Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nelson Funeral Home - Oswego on Feb. 18, 2026.
Michael (Mike) E. Harrington, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2026, surrounded by family.

He was born in Oswego, NY, on May 28, 1939, the son of the late Joseph and Bernice (Ritter) Harrington.

Before graduating from Oswego High School, Mike was drafted into the Marines, where he spent the next year writing love letters to his wife-to-be Benedetta (Betty) Manasseri. They were married in June 1959. Mike and Betty were the owners of Sugar n' Spice Restaurant, where their financial skills, management, and restaurant experience grew the restaurant from losing money to being profitable. Their love of flowers led them next to own Perry's Flower Shop. Mike worked as an electrician at Columbia Mills, Clinton Ditch, and finally Nestles, where he retired.

Mike was a devoted Catholic who served as an usher for numerous years at St. Joseph's Church. He enjoyed bowling, swimming, and gardening with his wife, Betty. His wife was his everything, the breath beneath his wings. Even with the loss of his leg, Mike was independent and insisted on doing everything, and doing it his way.

He was predeceased by his beautiful wife of 66 years, Benedetta Harrington. His life will be cherished in the memories of his son Michael (Tammy) Harrington of North Carolina, his son Daniel Harrington, and his daughter Kelly (TJ) Moxley, both of Oswego. Sisters Laura Polis, Maryann (John) Lippincott, and Sharon (Ron) Hoyt of Florida, and brother Joe (Debbie) Harrington, also of Florida. His grandchildren Michael (Melissa) Harrington Jr., Brittany (Nick) Outlaw, Cali Jo Rodriquez, Nathaniel (Giselle) Harrington, Benjamin (Allie) Harrington, and Tianna (Andrew) Bruno. Great-grandchildren: Alisse Harrington, Samara Harrington, Bryan Outlaw, Brantley Outlaw, Xander Harrington, and Robin Harrington.

Besides his parents and wife, Mike was predeceased by his grandson Scott Harrington, sisters Joanne (Mac) McKinstry of Colorado and Penny (Bill) Hallock of Oswego.

Celebrate the life of Mike by learning to laugh at yourself, give your all to others, share your blessings (he would say, "you can't take it with you!"), and cherish time spent with friends and family. Entombment will be at St. Peter Cemetery, Mausoleum. Services will be held privately for the family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
