Michael Don Harris, known to his friends and loved ones as Mike, left this world peacefully on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in Porter, OK, at the age of 67. He was born on January 20, 1958, in Coweta, OK, to Donald Harrell Harris and Retha "Pete" Essie Mae (Renshaw) Harris. He was proud of his Cherokee Native American heritage. Mike journeyed through life with spirit, enthusiasm, and a mischievous sparkle in his eye.
After serving honorably in the United States Navy from 1975 until 1978, he embarked on a remarkable 40-year journey as an owner-operator truck driver, leasing to multiple companies throughout the years. Most recently, he was a dump truck driver for Dusty Yocham Trucking. He shared a life of love and companionship with his wife, Veronica L. Harris, whom he married on October 11, 1991, for 30 years before she passed in 2021. Known as a bit of a jokester, Mike delighted in making others laugh and feel at ease. A lover of the outdoors, he was often found fishing, camping, or tending to his garden. Mike also found great joy in singing karaoke and playing the guitar, sharing his love of music and infectiously bright spirit with all those around him. He was a huge OU football fan, never missing a chance to cheer on his favorite team.
Mike is survived by his companion, Debbie Conwell of Porter, OK; his sisters, Debbie Welch and husband Dennis of Coweta, OK, and Kim Harper and husband Alan of Collinsville, OK; his stepdaughter, Karen Tarkington and husband Tim of Jacksonville, AR; his grandchildren, Stephen Montano and Allisyn Heilman; his great-granddaughter, Gabbi Montano; his aunt, Geraldine Gilbert of Coweta, OK; his uncle, Billy Renshaw of Coweta, OK; his nephew, Jason Radebaugh and his wife Ashley; several great-nieces; and extended family.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica L. Harris; his parents, Donald Harrell and Retha "Pete" Essie Mae Harris; his grandparents, Burl and Goldie Neugin; his sisters, Barbara Sue Harris and Marilyn Kaye Harris; and his brother-in-law, Coy Casey.
He leaves behind a legacy of good humor, deep loyalty, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
