Michael Jonas

Michael Davis Jonas, 89, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at his home in Prairie. Born on August 15, 1936 in Birmingham, he moved with his family to Decatur, from where he graduated high school in 1954. Enrolling in the University of Alabama, he graduated in 1958 with a degree in mechanical engineering and he was a member of Kappa Alpha. In 1961, he located to Aberdeen and was an engineer for Walker Manufacturing. In 1966, he matriculated at Sanford University School of Law, and after graduating began practicing law eventually establishing his own office in Aberdeen and for 50 years served his community as an attorney-at-law. In addition to his law practice, he enjoyed being a cattleman and working the farm and had several other business interests. He was a member of the Exchange Club and the Jaycees. In addition, he was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aberdeen.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Rosalie Miles Jonas; two sons, Michael Jonas, Jr. (Teresa), Meridian and Eric Miles Jonas, Aberdeen; two grandchildren, Kelly Rose Evans (Joe) and Anja Ellis (Brad); two great grandchildren, Emma and Damon; and his caregivers, Annie Buchanan, Louvenia Brown, Valerie Riddle, and nurse Caitlin Lacy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Judy Broadway; and grandson, Joshua David Carlson.
