Michael was a graduate of T.C. Roberson High School in 1985. He spent many years at Borgwarner Turbo Systems, but was recently self-employed. He was affiliated with Trinity Baptist Church.
Nothing brought Michael more joy than fishing, especially when he was sharing that time with his granddaughter, Ivy. He was an avid fly fisherman and a rock/gem hunter. He also had a deep love for sports. Many remember him as a star athlete at T.C. Roberson High School, where he played varsity football and baseball all 4 years. In 1983, he helped lead his baseball team to a state championship. After an outstanding season from 1983-1984, he was honored with the MVP Golden Glove Award. He was also a standout football player and was named WNC Defensive Player of the Year in 1984. That same year, his team honored him with both the MVP award and then Golden Helmet Award for the 1984-1985 season.
Michael had many lifelong friends and will always be remembered for his compassionate heart and warm smile. Those who knew him best say he was the greatest storyteller, always keeping everyone laughing with his wonderful sense of humor. Nothing made him happier than being with his daughter Elizabeth and his precious grandchildren; they were truly the loves of his life.
Michael was a loving father and a proud grandfather. He loved his mom and dad dearly, for they were his biggest fans. He loved his family and many friends. Michael always had a smile that lit up the room and never met a stranger. Thank you to all the friends and family that extended condolences and prayers during this difficult time. Michael was loved and will be greatly missed.
