Michael Kaupp Obituary

Published by Kotrba-Smith Funeral Home on Oct. 21, 2015.
Michael (Mickey) Lonnie Kaupp was born December 19, 1951 at Gregory, SD to Oswald J. and Ellen Leona (Gomke) Kaupp. He grew up on the ranch south of Gregory and attended grade school at Pleasant View #53, graduating from Gregory High School in 1970. Mike was baptized and confirmed in the Union Congregational Church. He was a member of the Ramis Ramblers 4-H Club and the I.O.O.F. Lodge. Michael was a cowboy at heart, breaking and riding many horses. He worked for several farmers and local businesses throughout the area for the last several years. "Muncle Ickey" (a nickname given to him by his oldest niece, with the other nieces and nephews following suit) enjoyed spending time with them. He was also well known by many other children of the community. Throughout the years, Mickey enjoyed darts, softball, and playing cards. However his last few years, Mike spent a majority of his free time having coffee with the guys. In fact, he was often known as the "blue pickup guy" at Mr. G's by those that didn't have the honor of knowing him personally. Since he lived only a short distance from Carlock, that is where you could find him on a Saturday night. Mickey passed away at his home on October 19, 2015 at the age of 63 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers John and Curtis, four uncles, and two aunts. Surviving to mourn his passing are his sisters and brothers, Sandra (Darrell) Jones, Gregory, SD, David (Rita) Kaupp, Gregory, SD, Rachel (Fred) Keune, Gillette, WY, William Kaupp, Gregory, SD, Linda Kaupp, Gregory, SD, Christine (Marlyn) Kaupp, Burke, SD, Charlotte (Gary) Engelmeyer, Brookings, SD, Diane (Herman) Rolf, Gregory, SD, Marsha Kaupp, Mitchell, SD, and Lori Kaupp, Gregory, SD. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, one aunt Mary Kaupp, Springview, NE, and several cousins. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Memorial services for Michael Kaupp of Gregory were held Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Union Congregational Church in Gregory with Pastor Russ Grim officiating. To the Kaupp family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I just visited with Mickey a few weeks ago outside of Mr. G's. I will miss his friendliness and warm smile. May he rest in peace! So sorry...
