Michael Keating, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 11, 2025.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved friend, family member, and community member, Michael Robert Keating, Jr. Mike crossed over on November, 8th 2025 to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born in Newark, NJ in 1943, Mike touched countless lives with his compassion, dedication and his radiant smile. Raised in Pittston, Pennsylvania until he joined the U.S. Army in 1961, he trained as a Cryptologic Equipment Repairman, providing outstanding support to the ASA 82nd Airborne, including a brief tour in Vietnam, as well as support during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, he worked for Bell Telephone and eventually made his way to the NSA at Ft. Meade, MD. His continued dedication service to his country spanned 35 years both in the Military and Government sector.

Mike enjoyed and excelled at playing a variety of sports, including baseball, football, and basketball during his youth in Pittston.

As an adult, he played on several competitive county softball teams in Maryland as well as the NSA. He was the first pitcher at the NSA to pitch a perfect game with the help of his fellow teammates. His southpaw bowling was also impressive, garnering a perfect 300 game.

He was blessed with two sons from his first marriage: Michael Robert Keating, III and Charles Edward Keating. In 2002, he married the love of his life, Peggy Bodnar-Keating. They shared a happy, loving, life together until his passing. Their relationship was undeniably a blessing for the two of them.

Michael is predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth Tierney Keating, Michael Keating Sr., and his grandson, Konner Ryan Keating.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy, two sons, Michael and Charles, sisters Barbara Lutman, Mary Beth Miglianico, Patricia McHugh, Carol DeLeo, and brother William Keating.

His legacy includes 5 grandchildren, including Brittny Ayon-Keating, Grace Keating, Konner Keating, Michael Keating IV, Benjamin and Collin Keating. He is survived also by his ten great grandchildren as well as many loving in-laws.

A Funeral Service in celebration of Mike's life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 3:00PM at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., of East York, 3670 E. Market St., York, PA 17402 with Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier officiating. The York County Veterans Honor Guard will provide Military Honors at 3:00PM at the start of the service. Viewings will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00AM - 12:00PM and from 2:00PM - 3:00PM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Mike's request was for donations to be made to an organization near and dear to his heart; The National WWII Museum at 945 Magazine St., New Orleans, LA 70130
