Michael Kenney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by James Funeral Home on Jan. 22, 2026.
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Michael Francis Kenney of Huntersville, NC on January 18, 2026.

In his courageous and long battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Michael faced an overwhelming, silent struggle. While we are heartbroken, we take comfort in knowing Michael is finally at peace and free from the pain of both body and mind.

Born on January 17, 1967, Michael was the son of the late John and Frances (Shea) Kenney. A native of Sayville, New York, Michael was a proud Army Veteran of the 10th Mountain Division. He was an avid sports fan, and although he moved to North Carolina 23 years ago, he never lost his love and passion for his New York teams., the Rangers, Knicks, and Jets.

Left to cherish his memories are his sons, Sean Patrick, Shane Michael; his daughter, Michaela Lee Kenney; his sister, Maryanna Conboy; and his brothers, Paul, Gavin, Neil, and Rev. Sean Kenney.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Kerry Afflitto; his brothers, Kevin, Colin, infant Michael; brother-in-law, James Conboy; and sister-in-law, Cristina Kenney.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 5:00 - 8:00pm, at James Funeral Home of Huntersville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, 11:00am, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Huntersville. Interment will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, 11:00am, at Salisbury National Cemetery.

When I think of Michael Kenney I think of a gentle soul. He was quiet and soft-spoken, but always entered a room with a big smile on his face, and was loved by everyone. Throughout the years we would all ask, "How's Michael doing?"... Michael had an adorable smile/smirk, that he always had on his face. When I picture him in my mind, it is with that smile/smirk on his face... One memory that stands out in my mind, is when Lynn and I were visiting Germany, and she would go into the bathroom and shut the door, so she could talk to her Michael on the phone. They were in love... Michael always remained a part of the family, and he and some of his siblings could often be seen at family events. I've never heard anyone say a negative comment about Michael. When his name came up, we would all just smile. Everyone liked Michael... It's heartbreaking to hear about his passing, and I send my love and prayers out to his family and loved ones. Michael will be remembered fondly, since that is the way we have always remembered him... Rest in peace, your long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis(MS) is over now. You fought it hard and courageously, and your family got to witness that. We all love you. Please take care of Brianna for us. We all love her too. Love, Linda Lee
