Michael Clyde "Mookie" Larson

Michael Clyde "Mookie" Larson passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2025, surrounded by family. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Georgia Larson, and brother, Greg Larson.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sheila, son, Ian, a sister, Kathy Pfalzgraff (Chris), a brother, Mark Larson (Patty), and daughters Kari Beever (Jim Bone) and Kristin Cox (Tyson)- He is also survived by 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mike and Sheila were married on September 19, 1997 in Breckenridge, Colorado, on top of Swan Mountain.

Mike was born in Sioux City, Iowa on January 1, 1959 to Clyde and Georgia Larson. The family moved from Sioux City to Denver, Colorado in 1960, to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1962, and then back to Denver in 1964. Mike continued to live in the Denver area until 2014, when he and Sheila moved to Kansas City to be near the grandchildren.

Mike was a lifelong athlete. He enjoyed sports and played baseball and football in high school and baseball at CSU, where he was a pitcher. He loved coaching Ian's basketball and baseball teams for 6 years. The baseball team thrived under his coaching and won many championships. Mike also loved playing golf and spent many days on the golf course with friends. Mike played slow-pitch softball for many years with the Rude Dawgs in Denver as well as with another team in Breckenridge.

Mike and Sheila loved traveling. They made many visits to Colorado and Florida. He loved the mountains and especially the trips with his family to Destin, Florida.

After graduating from CSU, Mike was a teacher in Dillon, CO. He taught PE and junior high boys & girls basketball for a few years. Mike started his career in insurance with Farmers in the liabilities & fraud investigation department. In 2000 he changed his focus and began selling health and life insurance with National Foundation Life, which eventually became US Health Group. He continued with this business for over 25 years. During his career Mike was a member of the Million Dollar Club and earned numerous other awards.

Mike was a kind, devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who loved bringing joy to others. He was an excellent cook and he always made sure no one went away hungry. His legendary prime rib with Mookie mashed potatoes was loved by everyone and frequently requested by his kids.

Mike was a huge animal lover and spent countless hours playing frisbee with Molly, their Border Collie. Tula, "the invisible cat", was always on his lap.

Although Mike was not a "church goer" he had a very deep and strong faith and relationship with God. Mike never met a stranger. He was always a very loving, caring, loyal and generous man who was loved by all his friends and family.

In keeping with Mike's love of sports, you are welcome to wear your team's colors.

Mike will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
