In Loving Memory Of:
Michael Omar Lewis
AKA: Poppa Smurf
Sunrise: September 19, 1953
Sunset: October 17, 2025
A Beloved Son, Father, Brother, Friend, and Veteran. Michael Omar Lewis was born on September 19, 1953, in Dayton, Ohio, to Martin Hattin and Doris Lewis. Known by his middle name Omar to those closest to him, he was affectionately called "Poppa Smurf" by his children and grandchildren-a nickname that captured both his gentle spirit and his deep affection for family.
Omar attended elementary school and Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio. Upon completing his education, he answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army, where he served proudly from 1972 to 1978. His years in uniform were marked by courage, integrity, and an unwavering sense of duty.
After his Honorable Service, Omar returned home to Dayton and some years later relocated to Florida to build a better life for himself. He was a man of quiet strength, simplicity, known for his sharp sense of humor and his calm, easygoing demeanor. Whether through his words, his laughter, or his presence, Omar touched countless lives with kindness and wisdom. Omar was deeply profound in his own right and as his children would say, he was a man of few words but when he spoke his words were life changing. He was socially conscious, an independent thinker, and never conformed to "the norm".
Omar passed away on October 17, 2025, in Pensacola, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and resilience. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his four beloved children:
•Juanita Michelle Montgomery (Sariyah Yisrael)
•Tara Shermaine Boone (and her husband, Michael Boone)
•Michael Omar Lewis, Jr. (and his wife, Tieannaca Lewis)
•Quintin Lewis
He is also lovingly remembered by his former wives, Patricia Henderson of Dayton, Ohio, and Crystal Anderson of Canton, Ohio.
Omar's legacy continues through his 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
