Michael E. Logan passed away on Sunday, August 3 at the age of 70 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Mike is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Frericks of 48 years and children Mary “Cory” So (Walter) of Circleville, Mary Jo Hampp of Lancaster, Adam (Kelly) of Pickerington and Katie (Colin) Hedges of Circleville. He is also survived by his grandchildren to whom he loved deeply, Sydney, Grace, Ivy, Cameron, Gavin and Mia. Mike loved his large family and is survived also by his brother Larry (Sheryl Wood) Logan and in-laws Mark (Joyce) Frericks; Kathy (Joe) Tomlinson; Tom (Sue) Frericks, Anne (Brad) Lamone; Sue (Jim) Lepesko; John (Lisa) Frericks; Jim (Denise) Frericks; David (Kim) Frericks; Matt (Grant) Frericks, Tom Duffy and dozens of nieces and nephews. Mike is also survived by his three cousins, Jim (Rita) Stevens, Nancy (John) Brothers and Sue Blythe. He is preceded in death by his parents and nephew, T.J. Duffy.

Mike was born in Brookville, PA on February 20, 1955 to Dean A and Francis M Logan. His family moved as his Dad was transferred with Owens Illinois living in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Georgia, California and finally landing in Circleville in 1970 which became his home. Mike graduated from Circleville High School in 1973 and later from Ohio Dominican University.

Serving as Mayor of Circleville from 1988 - 1991 was one of Mike’s greatest joys. In that capacity he reopened and expanded the city pool, rebuilt and opened the South Court St. fire station, completely remodeled the interior of City Hall, built the Pickaway St bridge and the city garage on Clinton and Ohio Street. Additionally, he played a vital role in the creation of the economic development arm of Pickaway County that later became P3. He also led the Pumpkin Show parades with pride throughout his tenure as mayor.

Mike was one of the original board members after the creation of Pickaway County Community Foundation. He became aware of the generosity of the people of Pickaway County through serving in this capacity and believed in the mission carried out by the Foundation that holds a diverse collection of funds affecting various groups of beneficiaries - Pickaway County people helping Pickaway County people.

Later, Mike served as the Executive Director of PICCA. He was proud of the building of infrastructure and the creation of a lot of jobs with money in the bank under his leadership.

Active at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mike served as a Eucharistic Minister, a lector, an usher, a Sunday School teacher and served on the Finance Committee and Parish Council.

Since 2003, it was Mike’s pleasure to serve many first-time and veteran home buyers and sellers in Pickaway County. Real estate was not only Mike’s career but his hobby. In his final years serving as a Realtor, he was honored to work alongside Ashley VanCleve who was his assistant.

We would like to thank the remarkable care team at Ohio State James Cancer Hospital that walked Mike’s journey with him over the last 17 months, especially Dr. Timothy Voorhees, Miranda Bradach,

APRN-CNP and his nurse caseworker, Melanie Cunningham, as well as Fairhope Hospice who guided us through his final weeks.

Calling hours will be held at Wellman Funeral Home on Friday, August 8 from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 9 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at the So residence at 8292 St. Rt. 188, Circleville. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to Pickaway County Community Foundation, Operations fund, which will support only the operations of the Foundation.
