Michael James "Mike" Lucido

I heard the sad news about Mike passing. He was my biology partner in 10th grade at Annandale High School. He was so very nice. Like a big teddy bear. Never arrogant about his great talent as a Star football player for Annandale. Not many people have talent and kindness like Mike did. Especially at that very young age. Thank you for everything you did for football for AHS. Rest in Peace, Mike.

I met Mike Lucido in our 8th grade at Poe Intermediate (1969-1970) from his neighbor and our classmate Danny Alvarez. I lived not too far from them. We all had become good friends that year. Many of our friends lived in Ravensworth Farm in Springfield but they all went to West Springfield High School instead of Annandale High School. Then that summer between our 8th and 9th grade, Mike was going out for high school football attending football practices for the beginning of our high school. He made history when he made the Varsity football team in his Freshman year. Those were exciting times.

Though Mike a great running back for AHS, I knew him as a fellow AHS wrestler. He always tried his best every time he got on the mat. I would learn years later that he was in the marines on Okinawa, Japan. Thankful to the 50th Reunion, I got to see and talk with him one more time. He was a gentle giant to me and will be missed.

RIP, Mike. You lived a large life.

Remembered by his classmates as our football hero!
Remembered by his family and his community as a selfless, honorable veteran and community stalwart.
Remembered by God as a faithful, loyal follower and believer.
And the opposing defensive linemen and linebackers who preceded Mike thought heaven held no fears for them - prove them wrong, #44! You created so many memories for those you are leaving behind. Rest in peace dear friend, dear classmate, and school hero!

Even the kind words of this remembrance understate Mike´s abilities. He was a generational athlete and brave soldier whom others naturally followed. His body may finally have given out, but his sprit still inspires us. Mike´s Atom community thanks him for his service and the pride we can have for what was accomplished at AHS. And, we offer our condolences to his family. He will be missed.

Mike is without a doubt the greatest football player in AHS sports and a all around great person to know

Mike Lucido was an iconic football player in Annandale High School and in Fairfax County , Virginia. I have so many connections with him beginning in Gloucester, Massachusetts where our fathers were neighbors. Dickie Lopes, my dad, grew up just houses away from Jack Lucido. They met again in Virginia many years later as both men were military career men and lived within proximity of AHS. I met Mike in the 8th grade where in gym class (girls and boys were in separate classes) we were paired for learning square dancing. He found great joy in whirling me around while I was literally airborne locked in his arm!! From that time on, we laughed at each other when meeting. Even though he was larger than life as an athlete, he was never boisterous or conceited about it. In fact, I found him shy and in retrospect, quiet. Always had a big, grand smile on his face, and that smile is what I will remember most about Mike.
Rest in peace Mike.

My heartfelt condolences and prayers remain with the entire Lucido family. I only played varsity football at Annandale in the fall of 1973. I was a back-up offensive center and only blocked for Mike on two offensive plays during the Falls Church game of that year. Both plays went up the middle and I am very proud to say that Mike gained a net total of at least 20 yards on those two plays. (Of course guards Lou Bonato and Chris Mullen deserve much of the credit too!) It has been my privilege to embrace Mike and our former teammate Richard Fisher as brothers during the past 15 or so months. (See photo.) During that time, we got together in Swansboro once a month and we spoke on the phone nearly every day. I miss those daily calls very much. We also attended our 50-year class reunion together, which was a major feat for Mike given his health issues. In the process, Mike helped me come to know his family, his most cherished memories and his enduring passion for the legacy of Annandale football. He also taught me a few things about gardening! Most important, we had many long discussions about our faith in God. As such, I am confident that Mike will be among those who greet me on "the other side" when my time comes.
