Michael Patrick Macready, 76, fell asleep in the Lord as the Sabbath began on March 27, 2026, surrounded by his praying family. He leaves behind a powerful legacy of courage, faith, service, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Michael-known to most simply as Mike (Miguelito, Hoser, Houdini, and Big Tim to his younger brother Neil)-embodied quiet strength, steady presence, and deep integrity. He never sought attention or recognition. Instead, he showed love through consistency, dependability, and action. Mike noticed what needed to be done and handled it quietly. Whether offering a helping hand, a word of encouragement, or simply being there on time, he did so without fuss.
Mike served as a humble United States Navy SEAL. Known for his selfless leadership, encouragement of others, and athleticism, he was admired by his teammates for these unmatched qualities. He seldom spoke of his service unless asked and maintained close ties with-and deep love for-his SEAL brothers. Those closest to him admired his bravery, humility, toughness, and steady sense of duty, which defined his life.
Growing up in La Habra, California, Mike was most at home in the water, thriving as a water polo player and Huntington Beach lifeguard. After his service in the Navy, his lifelong comfort near the ocean guided him into a successful career in the seafood and aquaculture industries, culminating in his retirement from Carolina Classics Catfish, Inc. in Ayden, North Carolina. His work regularly took him around the world, introducing him to diverse cultures and people and feeding his love for sharing travel stories-often highlighted by quiet humor and thoughtful observations. Through hard work and steady leadership, Mike rose to executive management, earning lasting respect from colleagues who admired his fairness and calm under pressure.
Faith and service shaped Mike's life. He cherished his church, where he served for many years as chair of the Finance Committee, as a deacon, and as head deacon. On Saturday mornings, Mike was often there by 9:00 a.m.-unlocking doors, arranging chairs, preparing the sanctuary, and ensuring everything was ready before welcoming members and guests. To him, caring for the church was a privilege, and he served with quiet dedication week after week.
Above all, Mike was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, neighbor, and friend. Family was his world, and his love was steady and practical. He showed up without fanfare for school events, family celebrations and faalavelaves, quiet conversations, and moments that mattered. Generous with his time and wise advice, he was just as content to listen. To those who loved him, Mike was a source of calm and strength.
Mike is survived by his faithful retirement companion, Toa Dog, who was rarely far from his side; his beloved wife, Margaret; sons Patrick and Byron (Leilani); daughter JeLeina (Peter); and grandchildren Haley, Patrick Jr., Atonauga, Tulaniu, Tini Inu, and Moemoe. He is also survived by his stepmother, Tillie; siblings Sterling, Glen (Pam), and Neil (Lisa); godchildren Isabel and Robert; Doug and Jeffrey; his cherished Samoan aiga, whom he dearly loved; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who brought him great pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dennis, and his brother in law Liam.
A funeral service for Mike will be held on April 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Seventh day Adventist Church, 4658 Reedy Branch Road,
Winterville, North Carolina 28590.
Michael Patrick Macready will be deeply missed and always remembered-for the life he lived, the strength he showed, and the love he gave. Mike was joyous in "looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13).
See you soon, Frog Man!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's honor to the National Navy UDT SEAL Museum.
