It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Malone on October 19, 2024 at Memorial Sloan Cancer Center in New York after a long illness. Mike passed peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Orange, New Jersey on September 3, 1969, Mike was a cherished husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Susan, his two children, Gavin and Charlotte, his mother, Shelly Malone, sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Jim Dempsey, Kate and Brian Burke, Eileen and Jim Baker, and eight nieces and nephews.

Mike was the kind of father and uncle who loved getting down on the floor with the kids to play with them. He would fully commit to whatever game was being played and never asked to quit until everyone was tired out. Mike was always up for a backyard catch, a game of Frisbee, shooting hoops, or for creating one of his famous scavenger hunts that sent the kids scurrying around looking for hidden treasure. He was a connoisseur of Dad Jokes, Sniglets, and puns.

A man of great faith, Mike's strong moral code meant he treated everyone with compassion, respect, and grace. As a lifelong Mets fan, Mike was able to maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity, a quality that served him well as he coped with his cancer diagnosis. He never gave up hope.

Mike was a reporter, editor, and content director at Broadcasting & Cable Magazine, Multichannel News, and NextTV for almost 20 years, and was a five-time finalist for the Jesse H. Neal Award for excellence in journalism. Mike was also a prolific freelance writer, with bylines in publications including The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, and New York. A talented, creative, and witty writer, Mike also had a handful of published books under his belt.

In addition, Mike was a trusted leader of his son's Scout troop, a coach of his daughter's soccer team, a dedicated and passionate member of the Village Lions rugby team, and an enthusiastic player on his local softball team, Healy's Travel.

Mike threw himself fully into every endeavor and when he committed to something, he followed it through to the end. His exuberance, humor, and warmth were infectious. Those who loved him will miss him dearly.
