Michael J. McClain

Michael J. McClain, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away on November 28, 2025. He was born on September 2, 1953 in Franklin, Indiana to the late Jay and Carolyn McClain.

He was employed at St. Francis Hospital for 26 years as a plant operator/HVAC mechanic and retired in 2021.

He took so much pride in his job there, was a very hard worker, and a great provider to his family.

Mike as he was called by many or "Herb" by close friends, was the sweetest man with a heart of gold. His laughter was contagious, his hugs were the biggest, and quite literally the best, and his quiet demeanor was the cutest! Mike thrived in a social environment, and he genuinely loved being around the people who got him, he just made you feel comfortable in his presence. Mike enjoyed listening to his favorite music (as loud as possible), watching football and basketball games (GO IU!), he also looked forward to hanging out with friends and family and just enjoying time spent with others. He also was a great athlete in his younger years which included basketball, football and swimming. Mike loved a refreshing dip in the pool and getting his tan on when summer came around each year! He will be deeply missed and his family and friends will always cherish the memories they had of him.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory,his lovely daughters, Shelby (Cory) Reber and Casey (Cary) Allen; his beautiful granddaughters, Laila Marie and Adelynn Grace. His brother Mark (Joy) McClain and his sister Marsha (Steve) Gray.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helena McClain; and his son, Matthew McClain.

A memorial visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the memorial service time at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 13, 2025 at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. He will be laid to rest at The Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery.

Mike was very hopeful he would walk again after getting his prosthetic leg, it would be a beautiful thing to help someone who could not afford one who is in need to be able to do so in his memory.
