Michael lived the carefree lifestyle in the golden age of the hippies. He loved to travel and fly by the seat of his pants. He was a talented writer who had a love for poems and short stories. He was mentored by the great Michael Hamburger with whom he studied and took guidance from while living in England for a brief period.
His travels eventually took him to Mexico City. It was there that he met the woman who would become his wife, Yumiko, who was studying abroad from Japan at the University of Mexico. After a traditional wedding held in Yumiko’s father’s renowned Buddhist temple in Japan, the ties that Michael had to Taos beckoned them home. It is here where he would later open an art gallery, found his calling and made a name for himself.
Michael was known for his kindness and love. If you were ever in need he would not hesitate to do whatever he possibly could do to help. He was heavily involved with Child-Rite Art Auction, a nonprofit which would help raise money for expenses and support for adoptions in New Mexico. He will be remembered as the kind, friendly, loving man he was.
His duties having been fulfilled and accomplished, was called upon and thrust back into the cosmos. His spirit released and energy infinite, he is now free to continue his journeys and explorations as he so did when he was alive. He is unshackled from the restraints of this physical realm and now free to spread his love wherever his wild and rambunctious soul guides him to, just as he did when he was alive.
Michael is survived by his wife, Yumiko and two sons, Ryobun and Ryoma. Sadly, Ryoji passed away too soon before his time with whom he can now be reunited with. Michael will also be rejoined with his mother, father and older sister.
You will be missed and loved by all those whose lives you touched and influenced. Fly high and keep watch over us until we meet again. The sky is now your canvas. You will be forever surrounded by the most beautiful paintings, as you enjoyed so much in life.
