Mr. McKenzie, known affectionately as Michael to his friends and family and "Bitty" to his grandchildren, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2024, in Alexander City, Alabama. Born on October 6, 1958, in Atlanta, Georgia, Michael's warmth and generosity touched many lives during his 65 years.
Michael's life was one marked by devotion-to his family, his work, and his faith. He is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda McKenzie, of Alexander City, AL; his daughter, Bethany Grogan and her husband Mike; his cherished grandchildren, McKayla and Braxton Grogan; his sisters, Judith Ann McKenzie of Norcross, GA, and Margaret Mundy McKenzie, Jr. of Tucker, GA; his brother, Sam Phillips McKenzie, Jr. and his wife Lyn of Greensboro, GA; his brother-in-law, Alan Roberts and his wife Kris of Callahan, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Judge Sam Phillips McKenzie, and his mother, Margaret Mundy McKenzie.
Professionally, Michael dedicated himself as the Executive Director for Arise Transportation, where his leadership and vision were instrumental in the organization's success. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident to all who worked alongside him.
A man of deep faith, Michael was a faithful member of Hillabee Baptist Church, where he found strength and community. An avid Georgia Bulldog fan, Michael's enthusiasm for his team was infectious. He also had a profound love for music, especially the timeless classics of Frank Sinatra, which often filled the rooms of his home.
Above all, Michael was a family man. He reveled in the joy of being a grandfather and cherished every moment spent with his family. His kind, selfless, and loving nature was the cornerstone of his character, leaving a legacy of warmth and kindness that will be remembered by all who knew him.
Michael Morrell McKenzie will be deeply missed, but the memories he created with those he loved will continue to inspire and comfort them for years to come.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Adams Nursing Home and Enhabit Hospice for their wonderful and loving care of Michael.
The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to Hillabee Baptist Church 1781 Hialeah Circle, Alexander City, AL 35010.
