Michael Owen McPharlin, age 78, of Byron Center, MI passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Mike proudly served as a chaplain's assistant in the U.S. Army, where he met his wife, Sharon. He worked as a commercial draftsman and designed several buildings in the Grand Rapids area. Mike loved the great outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and mushrooming. He also enjoyed playing the ponies and going to the casino. Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon. He is survived by his sister, Agnes (Richard) Karas; brother-in-law, Craig (Joanne) Toal; nephews and nieces, Jason (Claire Sparklin) Karas, Jordan (Phil) Biga, Lindsey (Jared) Nichols; cousins, Jan Look, Judy Stauffer, Ben (Kate) Look, Mary McClellan, Carol (Jim) Koster; and many other cousins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 11 AM at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49508, where the family will greet visitors prior to the service from 10 - 11 AM. Mike will be laid to rest in the family plot at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Hastings, MI.
