Michael G. Meng, 74, died Monday, December 16, 2024, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. Mike was born February 9, 1950, in Dodge City, KS. He was the son of Marcus Anthony and Martha Lee (Trail) Meng. Mike spent his early years on the farm, north of Charleston, later moving to the family farm in northeast Finney County. He attended school in Ingalls.
On June 8, 1971, He married Theresa Louise (Peitz) Meng at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Ingalls. They moved to Denver, Colorado for a short time. They returned to Garden City, where they raised their family. Mike worked most of his life in the trucking industry; American Implement, Bar T Trucking, Translease and Preferred Cartage. His work included driving, dispatching, personnel, safety and human resources. He also enjoyed farming alongside his father, brother and sons.
Mike was known for his work ethic, his good nature, friendliness and his sense of humor. He enjoyed morning coffee with friends at Hanna's Corner or McDonald's. He loved sports, fishing, hunting and camping with his family and friends. His favorite spots were Colorado, Arkansas and especially Scott Lake. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, watching kids' and grand kids' activities.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa, his children; Michael P. (D'Arcy) Meng of Garden City, Matthew T. (Jamie, fiancé) Meng of Sublette, Kansas, Ryan (Jennifer) Meng of Garden City, and Erica Meng of Garden City, grandchildren; Erin Meng of Louisburg, Kansas, Bailey (Dylan) Reagan of Thomas, Oklahoma, Reese Meng of Garden City, Allison Meng of St. Louis, Missouri, Symone Simmons of Garden City, Cooper Meng of Garden City, Savannah Garcia of Beulah, Colorado, Avery Meng of Garden City, Karah Garcia of Garden City, Rebekah Garcia of Garden City, Olivia Meng of Garden City, Kenna Housman of Sublette, Mylah Garcia of Garden City, Kyle Meng of Garden City, Brynnah Garcia of Garden City, Dreyton Garcia of Garden City and Cade Grady of Sublette. Great grandchildren include Kodie Meng of Louisburg, Forrest Reagan of Thomas, Oklahoma and Kaiah Steinmetz of Garden City. Survivors also include two sisters; Linda (Roger) Loewen of Wichita, Judi (Joe) Johnsey of Mountain Home, Arkansas and a brother, Greg (Donna) Meng of Mountain Home, Arkansas and brother-in-law, Rob (Marlene) Gard of Parkston, South Dakota. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary Gayle Gard and brother, Marcus (Doc) Meng,
A vigil service and rosary will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 7:00 pm. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am. on Saturday, December 28, also at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Fr. Benjamin Green as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. The family suggests memorials be given to St. Dominic Catholic Church or to the Alzheimer's Association both in care of Garnand Funeral Home 412 N 7th Street, Garden City, Kansas.
