Mr. Michael “Micky” Riley Ferguson, 77, passed away Monday, January 20, 2025, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC surrounded by his family and friends.
Mr. Ferguson was born in Newport News, VA, June 30, 1947, to the late Robert Riley Ferguson and Georgia McCracken Ferguson. He graduated from Elon College with a BA in Accounting. As a CPA, Micky was employed by the IRS in the Greensboro area. After 30 plus years of faithful service, Micky retired to enjoy a simpler but rewarding life of leisure. Micky loved taking fishing trips to Beaufort with his boat in tow, golf outings with his buddies, and maintaining his own putting green while imagining sinking putts like Phil Mickelson. He enjoyed rooting for the Atlanta Braves and cheering on the Tarheels. You could always find Micky on his tractor, working on his farm, haggling over any good deal, and helping strangers and those in need. He was the unofficial mayor of Broadlands. Most of all, Micky loved his family, their annual beach trips to Ocean Isle and attending any sporting events that his grandchildren played, especially Jaclyn’s basketball games.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 30 years, Kaye Gilliland Ferguson and brothers-in-law, Billy Kidd, and Wayne Aker.
Mr. Ferguson is survived by his son, Jeffrey Robert Ferguson, of Siler City; stepson, Nicholas Wayne Kidd (Suzanna), of Burlington; stepdaughter, Heidi Kidd Faucette (Travis), of Siler City; sisters, Sherry Kidd, of Siler City and Diane Aker, of McLeansville; and four grandchildren, Gracyn, Jaclyn, and Parker Faucette and Lawson Kidd.
The family would like to give a special thank you to his caregiver and friend, Renata White and the entire staff at UNC Neurosciences Hospital. The family is grateful for special friends and neighbors who have loved and supported Micky.
