Michael Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 25, 2026.
Michael A. Miller, age 72, of Woodbury, MN, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 23, 2026, after a courageous nearly 20-year journey with Parkinson's disease.

He was born on August 2, 1953, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Charles and Mary, and grew up in a family of 7 children, on the eastside of St. Paul. He dedicated 40 years of his working life to Xcel Energy, retiring after a long and faithful career marked by hard work, integrity, and commitment. An incredibly hard worker, he instilled this in his family as well as a strong sense of responsibility and financial stewardship, teaching by example the value of diligence, planning, and providing for those you love.

A true jack of all trades, he had the remarkable ability to fix, build, or create just about anything. If he didn't already know how to do something, he would teach himself until he mastered it. He was always the first to lend a hand, helping anyone and everyone who needed it, never expecting anything in return.

He had a deep love for the water, having lived on multiple Minnesota lakes, treasured visits to the ocean, and countless days boating on the river. He found peace on the water and joy in every horizon. A private pilot, he also loved the freedom of the skies and the adventure that came with learning to fly. And in life's simpler pleasures, he never lost his fondness for a good bowl of ice cream.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 51 years, Sylvia, his high school sweetheart and soulmate, whose love and devotion knew no bounds. In the long and difficult years of his illness, Sylvia became his devoted caregiver, selflessly caring for him with patience, tenderness, and unwavering faith, remaining by his side and holding him until his very last breath - a final and profound testament to their lifelong love.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Matthew (Kim) and Michele, who were the pride of his life. His grandchildren - Michael, Amelia, Gabriel and Madeline - were the light of his eyes and what he loved more than anything. Being "Grandpa" brought him his greatest joy.

He is also survived by his siblings Tom, Trish, Julie, Tim, Charles, and Mary Kelly, along with twelve brothers- and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss his kindness, humor, and steady presence.

More than anything, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a loyal brother, and a man whose quiet strength, generosity, and gentle heart touched everyone who knew him. His legacy of love, perseverance, and family will live on in the many lives he shaped.

A celebration of his life will be held at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Oakdale, MN on Friday, January 30th. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by Words of Remembrance at 10:55 a.m., and Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment and a luncheon will take place immediately following the service.

Any memorial contributions given to the family will be donated to Parkinson's research in Mike's name.
