Michael was preceded in death by his wife Gardenia Mitchell; mother, Mary Mitchell; father, Earl Goldsmith; sister, Jacquline Johnson; and his aunt, Alberta Bibbs.
Michael leaves to cherish his memories, his son, Michael Shawnell Mitchell Jr.; his grandson, Michael S. Mitchell III; fiancé, Bonnie Stinnett; stepsons, Robert Cummins (Hallie), Jacob Brown (Gracie), Kamari Childress; two grandchildren, Kaliana and Kyler Cummins; brothers, Donnie Mitchell (Janice Mitchell) Steve Mitchell, Dwight Mitchell; sisters, Earlene Shelby (Derrick Shelby) Carolyn Doss (Michael Gates) Victoria Mitchell, Marion Mitchell; nephew, Jemal Johnson; cousin, Yolonda Sanders (Ricky Sanders); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mike was a loving, caring person and me and my family had much respect for Mike. My best memory of him is when my Dad with dementia would go visit my Aunt Bonnie (my dad's sister), Mike would help my Dad in the house and would wait on him and then help him back to his truck. Mike had such a kind heart for people and we were all blessed to have him a part of our lives.
