Michael J. Olivarez, 76, of East Moline, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan, at a later date. Memorials may be made to Christian Care with the family’s appreciation for the help they provided Mike at several points in his life.
Michael Joseph Olivarez was born April 26, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Narciso Teofilo and Mary Assunta (Zammit) Olivarez. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
After being discharged from the Army in 1971, Mike lived in Southeastern Michigan before moving to Davenport, Iowa in the late 1980’s, and worked as an interstate truck driver for most of his career. His home on the Mississippi river was severely damaged during the Great Flood of 1993 and in the aftermath he was able to remain in the Quad Cities area through his own determination, strength, friendships and support from the community.
Mike was a humble person with a strong work ethic and was a loyal son, brother, and friend. When he had time off from work, he travelled the country by car or motorcycle; from Montreal to the Colorado and Wyoming mountains, to the California deserts and redwood forests, pursuing his interests in Formula 1 racing, sports, music, camping and exploration.
Mike is survived by five siblings, Christine (David) Schwebs of Merritt Island, Florida, JoAnn (William) Hedger of Brooklyn, Michigan, Carol (Dean) Boyce of Howell, Michigan, Annette (Mitchell) Lyle of Corvallis, Oregon, and Daniel (Dawn) Olivarez of Dearborn Heights, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
