Dr. Michael B. Overton, Sr. of Winston-Salem, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 8, 2022, at 3:39 PM at the age of 78. Dr. Overton is survived by his two sons, Michael B. Overton, Jr. and wife Teresa of Matoaka, WV, and Brian Overton and wife Cydney of Kernersville, NC; his 8 grandchildren, Christopher Overton, Benjamin Overton, Chase Logan, Zachary Overton, Grace Overton, Christian Overton, Dylon Adams and Aspyn Adams. He had 4 great-grandchildren: Jason Logan, Everleigh Overton-Premo, Roan Overton and Avery Overton. He is preceded in death by his father, Lester Lee Overton (1969), his wife, Linda Gail Overton (1982), his mother, Clara Styers Overton (1998) and his sister, Brenda Lee Hull (2013). Dr. Overton was born in Baltimore, MD on August 20, 1943, to Lester Lee Overton and Clara Styers Overton. He graduated from Northwest High School in Winston-Salem in 1961, attended Lees McCrae College and is a graduate of Forsyth Technical College with a degree in mechanical drafting. On May 3rd, 1964, he married the love of his life, Linda Bailey. In 1974 he accepted Christ as his savior and later attended Tabernacle Baptist College, graduating in 1981 with a degree in Bible Theology. He was given an honorary doctorate degree from Anchor Baptist Church, Pisgah Forest, NC in 2007. In 1984 he answered his call to full-time missions and worked in both La Paz and Santa Cruz, Bolivia where he remained until shortly before his death. Dr. Overton was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed time with his family and friends and was an avid fisherman who loved the mountain streams. He collected antique guns and could play both the guitar and the banjo. He never met a stranger and would sit and talk to anyone. He was a man of God who dedicated his entire life to spreading God's word to everyone he encountered. He will be missed by many and his impact on countless lives both here at home in Bolivia is immeasurable. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Randy C. Barton officiating.
