Dr. Pap and I were friends during my stay at the nursing home from March to August of 2012. He would visit me in my room every evening and sing folk songs in his native language. We had a good time. My family and I have the deepest respect for him. Surely he is now in a very special place.

Just saw the obituary notice and wanted to send condolences on behalf of myself and my wife Jan. Dr. Pap will always hold a special place in my heart and be the source of so many fond memories. My time spent with both he and Dr. Prpic at the Soviet Institute at JCU was filled with learning on so many different levels. It was a privilege to have been one of his students, and through my friendship with Steve and Sally I was treated as family. I shared many Dr. Pap stories with my students over my 40 years in teaching, and his legacy will continue to flourish. We will always remember a truly wonderful man!

Besides losing my parents a few years ago, I have truly lost one of the most important mentors in my life. Dr. Pap, along with Dr. Prpic and Ulrich, and Father smythe were among the greatest scholars to have entered my life and I am forever grateful. Dr. Pap always was there to listen, counsel, and advise. He and my other professors at John Carroll University were the best of the best. I will miss him but go forward armed with the knowledged he opened my mind to on the Soviet Union, Communism and foreign affairs. He was one of the giants!!!!! May you Rest in Peace.

Gina and I were so sad to hear about Dr. Pap\'s passing. We\'d lost touch over the years, but he was a tremendous personality, a tremendous person and a tremendous influence in our lives. I think I took all of his classes, and worked for/with him at the Soviet Institute and, later, at HRED. He and Anne attended our wedding and I will always think of him, just the way his picture portrays. He was so proud of his family, and family heritage. A great man.
Please know that we share in his loss.Eric & Gina Lewandowski
