Michael Neil Piatt, age 50, of Adel, Iowa, passed away on February 9, 2026.
Michael was born on August 29, 1975, in Champaign, Illinois, to Darwin and Valerie (Conley) Piatt. Growing up in an Air Force family, Michael experienced life in many different places, moving often and gaining a wide appreciation for people and communities across the country. He graduated from high school in Ohio, where he formed many lifelong friendships.
Following high school, Michael served his country in the United States Army.
In 2012, Michael married the love of his life, Jessica Lagemann. Together they built a life filled with laughter, love, and partnership. They were blessed with their daughter, Layna, who was the light of Michael's life. Being a husband and father was his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.
Michael had an amazing sense of humor and a natural gift for making people laugh. He could lighten any room with his quick wit and playful spirit. He enjoyed playing video games, experimenting in the kitchen, and spending time hunting. A devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Michael cheered passionately for his team and rarely missed a chance to show his support.
He also had a special place in his heart for animals. Michael was always willing to lend a hand to help an animal in need, often assisting in finding homes for pets who deserved a second chance.
Above all, Michael loved his family and friends. He valued time spent together, whether sharing stories, laughter, meals, or quiet moments. His kindness, humor, and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Michael is survived by his wife, Jessica; his cherished daughter, Layna; his siblings, Randy, Zach, Paul, Sean, Jennifer and multiple step siblings; his nephews, Aidan and Connor; and multiple extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
